Jane Austen Masterpiece Live Onstage at Stephens Auditorium in Ames

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Pride & Prejudice, one of the most beloved stories of all time, marks its 200th anniversary this season. Jane Austen’s acclaimed work explores the realms of manners and morals, relationships and disappointments, parents and children. This romantic comedy is the classic tale of the Bennets, a family blessed with five daughters and a mother desperate to marry them off. The pairing of the witty, independent Elizabeth, and the arrogant but honorable suitor, Mr. Darcy, sets the standard for all great couples of the stage and screen.

This performance, brought to Stephens Auditorium by the acclaimed L.A. Theatre Works, stars TV actress Jane Carr (Two and a Half Men and The Closer on TV and Mary Poppins on Broadway) and Nicholas Hormann (over 60 TV appearances including Seinfeld, Parks & Recreation, Desperate Housewives, Bones, and The West Wing).

This will be a Radio Theater presentation, which is a hybrid of a radio play and a traditionally-staged work with costumes, theatrical lighting and bits of scenery. Following the production, there will be a Q&A session with the actors.

L.A. Theatre Works is a non-profit media arts organization based in Los Angeles whose mission is to present, preserve and disseminate classic and contemporary plays. The organization encompasses a yearly “live-in-performance” series created in Los Angeles, a collection of more than 400 recorded plays, a weekly public radio show heard by over seven million listeners annually and yearly national touring programs.

Some of the world-renowned actors of the stage and screen who have worked with L.A. Theatre Works include John Lithgow, Hilary Swank, Neil Patrick Harris, Paul Giamatti and countless others.
