Projects with Purpose: Applications Now Available for the 2013 Ames Community Grant Program
Monday, September 24, 2012

The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau would like to help community organizations and local businesses fund their favorite “Projects with Purpose” with support from the 2013 Ames Community Grant Program. The program is currently accepting applications for events and projects that will be taking place during the 2013 calendar year. Applications are due by noon on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Since 2007, the grant program has awarded nearly $300,000 to support 118 events and projects throughout the Ames community. In 2012, the program supported more than 20 new and returning programs, including the Central Iowa Symphony Young Artists’ Concert, which featured musical performances by the winners of their Young Artists Competition.
Another 2012 recipient, Raising Readers in Story County, hosted Step Into Storybooks: Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds. Their event included interactive stations, with books and activities to promote fitness, good nutrition and mental development for area children and their families.
According to Anne Taylor with the Campustown Action Association, “Funding from the Ames Community Grant Program allowed us to promote our Summerfest event to a larger audience and add entertainment options to create a celebration for residents, students and visitors.”
The Ames Community Grant Program was established by the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau to provide funding to assist groups, businesses and organizations with special events and activities. The projects can be educational, environmental, athletic, cultural or artistic, with the goal of attracting visitors and enhancing the quality of life for area residents.
