| More than 2,500 Youth will Dribble, Kick and Swim their Way to Compete in Ames this Weekend! |

What do 104 youth soccer teams, 105 girls’ basketball teams and 325 swimmers have in common? They will all be coming to Ames this weekend to compete against their peers in a variety of amateur sporting events.
Beginning Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13, the Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club (ACAC) will host their first Ames Rocks the Block Jam Swim meet at the 50 meter pool at the new Furman Aquatic Center in Ames. During the meet, participants will compete in a variety of individual and team swimming events.
Ames will also host the 2010 Kohl’s American Cup Soccer Tournament at the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex from June 11-13. This event will include 104 boys and girls youth soccer teams from throughout the Midwest during the three day event.
This weekend, Ames will also host the All Iowa Attack Girls Basketball Classic at the new West Town Courts facility in west Ames. This weekend’s event will include 105 girls’ teams from throughout the Midwest, with players ages 9-17.
During June, Iowa State University and Ames will also host several thousand future ISU students during the university’s annual summer freshman orientation sessions. Future ISU freshman students and their parents are invited to visit Iowa State and Ames for a two-day session that will help them prepare for their first semester at Iowa State this August.
According to Julie Weeks, Director of the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau, this summer more than 290,000 travelers will visit Ames and Iowa State University. These visitors will provide more than $25 million dollars in economic impact for the community.
