Monroe Crossing to Perform with Ames Chamber Artists and Iowa State Singers
Friday, February 26, 2010
The Ames Chamber Artists, Iowa State Singers, and renowned bluegrass band Monroe Crossing will present Carol Barnett’s “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass” on Sunday, April 11, at 3pm, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 North Sheldon Ave, in Ames.

Under the direction of Dr. James Rodde, conductor of the Ames Chamber Artists and the Iowa State Singers, the program promises to be a highlight of the upcoming concert season, whether you are a long-time patron of the groups or a first-time listener. Barnett’s creation combines the solemnity of the mass with the sparkle of bluegrass to form a unique listening experience. This groundbreaking piece is scored for the unusual combination of chorus and bluegrass ensemble, including mandolin, violin, guitar, banjo and string bass. The result is exciting new music - the perfect entry point for choral music lovers to the sound of bluegrass, and for bluegrass fans to the beauty of choral singing.

Tickets for the concert are $15. Tickets will be sold at the door and at select locations in Ames. Advance tickets are available at Evert’s Flowers & Gifts and Rieman Music in downtown Ames, at ISU Music Hall room 149, and by mail order through www.ameschamberartists.org. This event is supported by the Ames Community Grant Program and the Ames Commission on the Arts.
