Exotic Arabia comes to Ames as Story Theater Company presents “The Magical Lamp of Aladdin”, opening February 5 at Ames City Auditorium. The classic tale of adventure, magic, and romance is being staged with the support of major sponsor, Signify Promotions and the 2010 Ames Community Grant Program.
In this adaptation by Tim Kelly, the adventurous Aladdin crosses paths with the evil magician Jammal and his wicked sister Halima. Only with the help of his clever monkey Alakazam, the crafty Princess Jasmine and not one, but three, comical genies can Aladdin prevent his magic lamp from falling into the wrong hands. Director Heidi Germann leads a cast of 30 area children, ranging in age from 10 to 16, in this lively show that’s sure to please the whole family.
Performance dates for “The Magical Lamp of Aladdin” are Fridays February 5 and 12, at 7pm; Saturdays February 6 and 13 at 2:00pm and Sundays, February 7 and 14 at 2pm General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children/students and may be purchased in advance at the Ames Community Center or at the door. The show is supported in part by local option tax funds provided by the City of Ames through the Commission on the Arts.
